Photographic Works by Masahiro Hiroike
Masahiro Hiroike is an internationally acclaimed photographer. In 2020, he was awarded second place in the Nature & Wildlife category of the Professional competition at the Sony World Photography Awards—widely considered one of the world’s most prestigious photography competitions. In 2023, he was named a winner of the LensCulture Critics’ Choice Awards, selected by Darius Himes, Head of Photographs at the auction house Christie’s. Furthermore, he serves as a judge for the Landscape category of the Photographic Society of America (PSA) for 2025.
In 2025, Hiroike introduced two concepts: "Digital Photographic Surrealism," which redefines surrealism through the unique characteristics of digital cameras, and "Action Photography," which incorporates physicality and chance into the photographic process, capturing the "traces of an action." Following this, he was invited to join *Atelier Quindici* (https://www.atelierquindici.eu/en/)—an international contemporary art collective of 15 members—as the only photographer in the group specializing in digital photography.
These achievements not only attest to his exceptional technical mastery but also underscore the value of his work as contemporary art, imbued with profound philosophical and artistic depth. As noted in his photobook *QUEST: Volume 1*, his work is centered on the "pursuit of beauty." This core theme remains a consistent thread throughout his practice, whether in his landscape photography or his conceptual "action photography" works.
Regarding Large-Format Prints (B0 Size)
Japan, where Hiroike resides, is responsible for 90% of global camera production and 50% of printer production—a fact that Hiroike, who is also an engineer, takes great pride in. Consequently, he views it as his mission—both as a Japanese photographer and as an artist—to promote the culture of printing photographs in large formats and displaying them on walls, both within Japan and across the globe. In his creative process, Hiroike captures ultra-high-resolution photographs. He has equipped his studio with a large-format printer capable of handling 44-inch media, as well as a cold laminator (for mounting prints onto panels), allowing him to explore the production of B0-sized (1.5m x 1m) prints and mounted works.
His ultra-high-resolution, large-format pieces transcend conventional photography; they construct immersive spaces that allow the viewer to experience the passage of time and the traces of human activity. Possessing a profound sense of presence, his works are held in corporate and public spaces, as well as private collections—captivating those who seek an archive that embodies both aesthetic sublimity and high artistic merit.
* While the NFT image has a resolution of 6000 x 4000 px, the printed works are produced using images with a resolution of 15000 x 10000 px or higher.
About Editions
Hiroike’s works are offered in various edition formats, tailored to the specific nature of each piece.
Small-Format Works
For all photographs, works up to A3 size (450mm x 300mm) are classified as "Open Editions," similar to postcards or other accessible formats.

Reflecting their recognition in major international competitions and their established status within contemporary landscape photography, these works are released as strictly limited editions.
Digital Surrealism and Action Photography
This body of work is released in very small, limited editions. Rather than traditional photography, these pieces are positioned within the lineage of conceptual and process-based art.
Open Editions
Hiroike views it as his mission—as a Japanese photographer—to promote the culture of printing photographs in large formats for display in interior spaces, both in Japan and across the globe. Consequently, Open Editions are designed to be accessible to a wider audience, offering works in formats that are easy to incorporate into everyday living spaces and interior decor. Eligible Works:
- General, nature, and landscape photography
- Action photography (studies)
- Small-format works (A3 size, 450mm x 300mm, or smaller)
"Open Edition" works are produced as a series distinct from "Limited Edition" works.
Integration with NFTs
Photographs offered as NFTs with an edition size of 10 or more are available as "Open Edition" physical prints. Photographs offered as NFTs with an edition size of less than 10 are also available as "Limited Edition" physical prints; for these, a specific number of editions is reserved to ensure that the largest print size remains available for purchase for 90 days following the date the NFT is acquired.
Regarding Multiple Sizes and Edition Counts
"Limited Edition" physical prints are produced in various sizes.
Generally, the larger the print size, the smaller the edition count, resulting in a higher collectible value.
The following are standard guidelines, though edition counts may vary by specific work.

Regarding Step Pricing
For "Limited Edition" works, a "step pricing" model is applied, where the price increases incrementally as the edition number progresses.
This is a globally recognized sales method used to maintain the scarcity and collectible value of the works.
- First 20% of editions: Initial price
- Middle 60% of editions: Initial price x 150%
- Final 20% of editions: Initial price x 200%
